How can God be good if there is suffering in the
universe?
Well, God is good. There is a sourse of sin outside of
God which causes suffering.
How does the existence of love open the possibility
of evil?
God loves us so much that even when he foresaw the sin and suffering
that would darken and distort his creation, he chose to create us anyway.
He loved us and decided to allow free will and even risk that we would
use our freedom to choose evil.
What are the consequences of sin?
According to Charles Colson in his book How Now Shall We Live?
there are four main consequences of sin:
-
A disruption in our relationship with God
-
Alienation from one another
-
The original fall affected all of nature
-
God told Adam and Eve they would return to the dust from which they were
taken
What intolerable dilemma do non-believers face?
They want to live in a society where a divine authority is respected,
but do not want to submit to the divine authority. Just think about
it for a minute. Does this include you?
What are some solutions to the problem of evil?
-
Denial of God's existence, but our moral convictions would be reduced.
-
Denial of the existence of suffering, but that is illogical.
-
Placing of God beyond good and evil, but that makes God transcendent.
-
Saying that God's power is limited, but God is omnipotent.
-
Saying that God has created evil to achieve greater good, but God is all
good, and so are His creations.
-
Saying that there is an outside source of evil other than God!!
What's so great about the Christian worldview?
-
It corresponds with scientific evidence (for example, a fetus is
human before birth).
-
It provides the strongest basis for human dignity (Christians reflect the
character of the ultimate sourse of the universe).
-
It gives a sense of meaning and purpose (would you normally drive somewhere
without a destination?).
-
It provides a sense of assurance about our ultimate destiny (life is invested
with profound meaning).
-
It provides the mose certain motive for service and care of others (a society
where citizens only care for themselves cannot endure for long).
What's wrong with abortion?
It's murder! A fetus is human before birth! A fetus
has its own DNA code from conception, its own heart just 18 days after
conception, and its own funtioning brain just 42 days after conception!
What's wrong with worshipping gods like consumerism,
sexuality, scientism, new age, etc.?
-
Consumerism offers no comfort during the dark night of the soul.
The more you drink, the thirstier you get. There is never enough
to satisfy you, and you cannot take it with you after you die.
-
Marxism wreaks devistation and death, and denies evil in human nature.
-
Sexuality brings abortion, STDs, out-of-wedlock children, school
problems, drug and alcohol abuse, etc.
-
Scientism provides no moral guidelines for genetic experimentation.
All things do not change for the better (that's the escalator myth).
Scientism is blind faith in future changes, and a fantasy escape from Earth.
-
Sociobiology - selfishness; consciousness, will and choice are reduced
to genes. Humans are machines that carry out orders, and there is
no remedy for selfishness.
-
New Age fails to address truth of existence. It only raises
consciousness
of right and wrong, but requires no actions. It claims we are perfect,
and that there is no real redemption, only enlightenment.
Is there life on other planets?
Are you kidding me? No way.
The "Many Worlds" hypothesis says that there is life in other places
in the universe...BUT...
-
There are 19 factors necessary for life to exist. There is only one
star in 1026 stars that has these 19 factors.
-
There are only 1023 stars in the universe.
-
That means there is only one chance in 1000 that Earth would even
exist at all!
Now, given that, what would be the chances of more than one of those
stars having the 19 factors necessary for life to exist, and on top of
that, actually have life on them?!
Haven't scientists proven that life is not designed?
Nah. Go here.
